Help animals affected by Hurricane Sandy

animal rescue groups across the Mid Atlantic and Northeast are working hard to help animals affected by Hurricane Sandy. While it was heartening to see that we seem to have learned some lessons from Katrina, and that numerous shelters were accepting pets, pets were lost during the chaos of evacuations, and others are displaced because their guardians lost their homes.

Humane societies and shelters in the affected areas are working hard to offer support and shelter to animals and guardians in need. While they may eventually ask for supplies, best now, the thing they probably need the most is money. If you live in the areas that were hit by the storm and can help, contact local shelters to see if they need volunteers or donations. Petfinder.com is keeping a running list of shelters in the affected areas that need assistance. The list is updated daily.

To help pet guardians find their lost pets, someone started a Facebook page titled Hurricane Sandy lost and found Pets. The page serves as a collection point for photos of lost or found animals in the areas affected by Sandy, as well as animal shelters in need and short-term shelters that allow animals.

The Huffington post is showing a series of amazing photos of animals rescued from danger during and after the storm. all of the rescued animals imagined are dogs, but there’s some good news on the cat front as well: best pals animal Sanctuary reports that the the well-known Atlantic City feral cats were returning to their beloved boardwalk homes near the various casinos that dot the waterfront yesterday.

If you have additional information about rescue groups that need help after the hurricane, please post the information in a comment.

OMG I was thinking about the animals when I saw the awful images on tv… I really hope and pray that as numerous as possible will be rescued, and that they will be reunited with their families! I also do hope that numerous sensitive citizens will help the shelters, they really need that now!
Thank you Ingrid for this appeal!!!
